One of my CPU cores fails prime 95

My PC has had performance below what it should, so I downloaded prime 95 to ensure that my cpu temps were okay. When I ran it on my cpu (fx 8350) my fifth cpu core repeatdly fails the test. Could this be the reason for a low fps. My fps is lowest when loading a new area, for example when flying through minecraft my fps is pretty low and my fps is dreadful in Firefall. Any help would be appreciated, should I send my CPU back and ask for another one ?

FPS is usually a function of your graphics GPU - not your CPU and Minecraft is not exactly challenging graphically. Most programs simply don't use more than 4 cores.

What type of graphics card do you have ?

Prime really stresses a CPU so it could be a cooling issue - what are the temperatures of your cores.

I think if your CPU is under warranty you should be able to get a new one which is worth doing but I doubt if it is the cause of your problems

Strange - an R9280X should easily handle Minecraft. 60 deg C - is that idle or while you are running Prime - it would be high for idle temperatures - I would expect to see closer to 40 deg C . . . nopt sure how to unselect other than if someone suggests something better select their answer - ps I just selected your answer as the best solution - maybe that unselected me - actually I just did that and there is an unselect button that appears

60 degrees while running prime 95 my GPU is at 70 degrees while running heaven 4. My score on that is 500 points below what I should be getting, something I noticed is that the shadows are flickering and it doesn't look very good on the night scenes

In skyrim I get about 40 fps in towns, I can post my fps in other games and my scores on benchmarks (in 3d mark I got a graphics score of 6000 while I should be getting 8000.) I was taking to someone on reddit who was getting the same fps as me on all the games and they recommended getting a new GPU. If you want me to post the benchmarks and game's fps you'll have to wait till I get home from work
