Looking to upgrade my GPU and CPU

Hello, currently I have:
AMD FX-4170 Zambezi Quad-Core 4.2GHz (4.3GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Desktop Processor

ASUS M5A88-M AM3+ AMD 880G SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

APEVIA ATX-AS680W-BL 680W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Power Supply

I wanted to upgrade my CPU and GPU , just not sure what CPU will work in my motherboard and what GPU to get. Please help I have no clue, I was looking at a fx-8370 and a gtx 780, but I don't know if they will work with my current build.

PSU is on the avoid list and I would not trust it with a $300+ GPU. Motherboard is not the best and I would not recommend 8 core on it but rather FX6300.

Definitely get a new PSU ASAP. That thing is going to fry your rig man. Also, I would look at the GTX970 instead of the 780. It is quite a bit cheaper, and has only slightly less performance.

Any Corsair other than the CX series. But Seasonic and XFX are considered to be the best in the business. EVGA has also made some really great units lately that are looking to be as good as any. I know the supernova series by EVGA is getting some great reviews.

Here I5 H97 board 550watt PSU and R9 290 for great price. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/JQ3trH Of course the GTX970 for 330 is good as well

You might have to do some shopping around. Everyone has been buying out the 970's. You might have to get a different brand than what you want, or just wait for it to become available.
