Do different types of RAM work with each other?

I have 2 sticks of 2gb XMS3 Corsair RAM @ 1333MHz and I just ordered 2 sticks of 4gb GSkill RAM @ 1600MHz. I have 4 RAM slots in my motherboard and was wondering if it would be a problem running all four sticks of RAM to get a total of 12gb RAM? I don't mind them all running at 1333MHz.

may work may not.you cant mix memory speed.can mix brands but not timing.

I must admit I've never tried it as the general rule is to fill all slots with RAM of the same type as there are differences in default timings which may cause issues in the different channels. Even if you were to manually set the RAM speed and timings to the same values in the BIOS there may be other variables that have an unknown effect. I use 4 sticks of 4 GB for a total of 16 GB but they are all the same type.

Both RAM have the same CAS Latency, same timing and same voltage. the only difference is the speeds which is 1333 and 1600.

Maybe, if they work they will all work at 1333. But mixing ram is a mixed bag, it may work and it may not. Personally I don't suggest mixing ram, too many problems can arise.

Should I just run on the 8gb now and sell the corsair ones and save up for another pair of g.skill RAM?

If you set your speed and timings manually instead of letting the computer BIOS do it automatically it might work but I would install 4 sticks of the same type - for sure then you won't have issues

UPDATE: I tried the 12gb ram and it didn't work. It kept restarting the PC over and over. The G.Skill I bought is running at CL11 I think, that maybe why

You can manually set the speed and timings to fixed values in the bios - if you do that it might work but you would have to set it at the speed of your slowest ram
