Okay so I need someone to help explain to me the difference in the two evga gtx770 cards. I ordered the 02G-P4-2773-KR with ACX Coolers but I actually ment to order the 02G-P4-2774-KR. There is about a $75-100 price difference based on the research I have done but I can't figure out what the difference between them is. It will arrive tomorrow so I'm just wondering if I screwed up and should send it back. Building my first gaming desktop and its the last piece I need. Thanks.

The "2774" version is clocked slightly higher. Both can be overclocked but the more expensive one likely has a "binned" GPU capable of a higher overclock.

The rated difference is 1111MHz vs 1046MHz.

*The price shouldn't be that much different from what I've seen so that surprises me as it's only $10USD difference currently ($300 vs $290) If one had been a 4GB model and the other a 2GB model I'd expect that. Perhaps stock is dropping so the more expensive card price has gone way up.

That makes me wonder how much the more expensive card costs if it's at least $75 more because that would be approaching the cost of a GTX970 which is far better.

Don't pay any big premium for a GTX770 as it wouldn't make sense.

UPDATE:
If you paid about...

UPDATE:
If you paid about $300 then that's a horrible deal considering the EVGA GTX970 4GB card is $330. If there's any chance you can get reimbursed I'd do it.

(I'd get the MSI Gaming 4G or Gigabyte Gaming G1. I'm currently investigating the coil whine issue to see if any card is more statistically prone to the issue.)

It will cost me $250 after a $30 rebate from EVGA, got it on Newegg after a 15% discount too. You think I should return it and look into a 970 like you suggested? I have a i5 4690k, 16gb RAM, good setup.

$250 is a lot more reasonable.

If you can return it then it's worth considering but that's your call. All I can do is give some points to consider:

1) More VRAM is starting to be a requirement for the best experience. The GTX970 has 4GB compared to a standard 2GB for the GTX770. The main reason is console ports since games can use about 5GB of shared memory it's really easy to make a game use well over 2GB just for video memory. This is why Watch Dogs had issues on PC (arguably poorly ported but that doesn't change the fact that more video memory is looking to be the norm for future games).

I'd sure want a GTX970 if playing Assassin's Creed Unity for example.

2) The GTX970 has new features. Most you likely won't care about but I'll just let you read here:
http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-970/features

VXGA won't matter for a while. MFAA is interesting (reduced AA cost) but may be more suited to slower games due to the way it works over time. We'll see as it's not out yet...

I tested DSR on my GTX680 but ran out of video memory just in Torchlight 2 so my frame rate just plummeted so this feature with only 2GB might have limited usage. The game can't be too demanding on the GPU either or it's pointless. If I'd had a 4GB GTX680/770 this would have worked just fine though as I could get over 60FPS before running out of memory.

3) Performance (example Asus Strix):
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GTX_970_STRIX_OC/25.html

With a good CPU like you have it's going to be similar to here which shows a 35% difference though the 970's will overclock even higher so some games could see 50% difference such as 60FPS vs 40FPS. MFAA again could additionally help a bit there by as much as 20% more.

Summary:
The GTX970 is a great card though you'd have to determine if it's a card you need. I have a GTX680 (about same as GTX770) and I'm still happy with my card as I have a lot of games that run great on it and have opted to hold off buying more demanding games until I replace it in a year or two.

*To be clear, the GTX970 should average close to 50% better than a GTX770 if comparing heavily overclocked models.
