Hey guys! I have a newish computer with an old, fried or maybe even fake 9600GT (tested the same as my 220GT in 3Dmark??). I'm looking for a new card that would work best with my system. Money is a real issue.

Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67GHz
6GB RAM

Monitor resolution: 1280x1024
Power Supply: sticker says 500 Watts
Overclocking: No.

My gaming habits: mostly small indie games that even my fried 9600GT can handle fine, the most demanding game I have played in recent years was Alan Wake, which is a rare occurrence. Still, I am having trouble playing Costume Quest 2 :??:

Budget: No idea yet. Money is very tight so I need to get a sense of how much money will be needed.

You might be able to use a HD7950 or HD7970 but it'll depend very much on the power supply, if it lacks the dual PCI-e leads these cards demand I'll advise you to leave them alone, if it doesn't have the leads it certainly won't have the sustained output to drive such a power hungry card safely.
For your uses I'd go for the GTX750, the 'Ti' version if funds permit, it's a huge upgrade from the 9600 and not hugely expensive.
If you want to save some more cash (who doesn't) the AMD r7 250X is slower but cheaper, but either will be a significant upgrade.

Thanks guys! My fried 9600GT was bought second hand so I am weary of buying second hand again. Would 7970 work ok with my power supply? Looks like it would be cutting it close and I can't risk having to replace my power supply...
