I'm planning to upgrade my OS from windows 7 32-bit to 64-bit (since some games require 64-bit)
my pc has only 1 HDD, local disc C: is where i keep my normal stuff, and local disc D: is basically a backup of C:, this might be a stupid question, but can i upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit and use local disc D: as my backup instead of a normal external HDD?
also I am quite new here and I do not know if this should be posted in windows 7 software or storage
thanks :)

I think they're seperate partitions (http://prntscr.com/536w6a), but I WOULD wipe C since I can just recover it from disk

Lol I honestly don't know why there are shortcuts there, but what do you mean by "reinstall 64 bit", also does this mean I CAN upgrade without an external backup?

Well do a clean install of 64 bit. Since you cant install over / from 32 bit to 64 bit

What exactly is on d / the backup files??

Because you cant reinstall 32 bit drivers in 64 bit. They wont work. You cant copy programs if theyre on D. Unless theyre install files

apparently disk D has a backup of everything in C but it's over a year old, so i'm "backing" it up right now
so what you're saying is that I can't restore my files?

Well you cant restore programs that you backed up in 32 bit to 64 bit. You'll have to reinstall them in 64 bit

And you cant as above use / install 32 bit drivers in 64 bit.

One thing you do have to check, is whatever this computer is that there are 64 bit drivers for its hardware

Because you cant install 32 bit drivers on it. If there are no 64 bit drivers for whatever, its not going to work

I think that sums it up, thanks for being patient with me, i'm a newbie in these things :D
I THINK there are 64 bit drivers for my hardware, my pc used to have ultimate 64-bit until I (stupidly) forgot the password to my pc, and a guy reinstalled windows 7 home basic 32-bit
