Assuming that you are using a high quality Z97 motherboard and your case has adequate cooling, what would be the highest overclock you could do on the stock cooler without straining the processor too much (and damaging it overtime)?

My guess would be 4.4ghz, but the fan would probably get really loud.

theory doesn't really mean shit to be honest. ambient temperatures, case temp, thermal paste application, the actual core temp under load varies due to these variables.

I reckon you'd crank 4GHz on stock if the ambient conditions and the other variables were also in check..

I have mine running at 4.2ghz with the stock cooler. I wouldnt go any higher. I recon i could tho... i have a CiT case with 4 cooling fans. Temp sits around 50°c. With a better heat sink i have heard could get it up to 4.7ghz.

Good luck:pt1cable:

G3258 is a budget cpu, so we expect the stock cooler to handle some mild overclocking. My G3258 was at 4.2 GHz 1.19V using stock cooler. Here is my results using AIDA64 Extreme Stability Test for 30 minutes :
MAX temp: 73 C
Ambient temp: 30 C
Motherboard: Z97 MSI Gaming 3

No throttling were detected. So in conclusion, the G3258 are able to perform at 100% performance 4.2GHz 1.19V using stock cooler.

My results were similar. I went up to 4.5GHz, but voltage needed and resultant temps I found too high, plus random crashes. I finally- after considerable p...p...playing around- settled on 4.2GHz for both core and uncore and 1.2V for both, stable after testing. That's stock cooler and fans (1xCPU, 1xCase) on normal, so I'd say a good deal for a >4GHz result with a G3258 and an ASUS H81M-PLUS for c$100.

Then on to RAM timings and GPU tuning with a GTX750 TI...

No. I have overclocked G3258 to 4.0 GHZ since the time I bought it , and on stock cooler and I don't see any issues with that I am planning to overclock it to 4.3 GHZ ......

My mobo auto-overclocked it to 4.2 with the stock cooler and 2 case fans, and it's been 6 months now, it still hasn't died.

I have mine at 4.5 ghz at 1.3 volts with a hyper 212 evo and runs max 75 cel on prime 95,Im comfortable with that,i do wonder what you could get with a liquid cooler and a silicone lottery chip
