Hey!
I'm looking to upgrade my Alienware X51. It has a M-ATX (Micro-ATX) motherboard though, Which would look really small in a Tower. Would the parts in it still fit into a motherboard like a Asus ROG Maximus VI Impact?
I mean,
are the specs like changed to fit into the small PC?

(Specs)
i7-4770
8GB DDR3
GTX 660

So will the Maximus VI Impact work with all the specs? and I can add a new PSU different to the Stock psu which is really just a box in the power cable.

Solution
Your system uses less than 300W, CPU and GPU included, so a good 430 to 450 W power supply would do. Even if you wanted to put in a modern GTX 970 or 980, that power supply would still be great. Something like an Antec VP 450, or an Antec Basiq plus 550.
All of those will fit in a modern LGA1150 socketed, motherboard. You will need to re-seat the CPU cooler and apply new thermal paste after cleaning off the old stuff.

A motherboard is what it does, so I would have no problem with a mATX in a big case, if that was all I needed. (Heck, I'd put a mini-ITX in a big case if that's what worked.)

No, the specs are the same. (The memory might be physically low-profile in some cases, but it works the same.)

Once you get out of the severe power restrictions of Laptopland, into the Republic of Desktop, the parts are all the same spec (although there is a range of low power desktop kit too) From small HTPC to glow-in-the-dark tripple Crossfire overclock, the parts are theoretically interchangeable (provided that there is enough power and they fit in the space)

Changing the motherboard won't give you much. Replacing the GTX660 will.

Okay, So a
Corsair 550W ATX Power Supply - CMPSU-VS550
+
Bitfenix Shinobi Window XL
should work fine with the current motherboard?

The Corsair VS 550 is a tier 3 PSU (here http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-1804779/power-supply-unit-tier-list.html) and we generally recommend better in any mid to upper end system. Antec, Seasonic, and XFX make better, similarly priced ones. You you tell me your region and budget, I can recommend one.

Case purchase is a personal decision (within the boundaries of fit and safety. I would not buy that case, but you might) Here is a review. http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/bitfenix-shinobi-window-review,7.html
