i7-4700MQ is a quad core, runs at a relatively low frequency compared to what an i5-4690k can achieve, but they are the same architecture.

GTX970 is going to be a huge improvement over a 765m (these two don't often get compared)

You can directly compare a GTX970 to an 980m, one SMM unit shy of being a GTX970. My guesstimate would be about 3+ times the performance.

765m (GK106) 2GB four SMX
980m (GM204) 12 SMM 4GB
GTX970 (GM204) 13 SMM 4GB
