Can i use 1600 ramm on a 1333 max board ?

Ok, i think i know the answer but i have to ask anyway...

I bought some gskill ram which is 1600 only to find out my motherboard only supports 1333.
Doh, yes.

I don't suppose if i put the 1600 in it will work ok and safely... and just run at 1333mhz until i upgrade my mobo no?

yes it will run at 1333 though you may be able to overclock it higher but most likely that wont work really well

It should run fine unless your using some weird proprietary model. It will just clock down to 1333, I have people do that all the time since some 1600 models are cheaper then the 1333 counter parts.

I have a problem..i put the ram in the wrong way I think and powered it up.
It boots for about 10secs then resets.
Wtf have I done?? If the mobo is broke are all my other components ok?

I tried putting my old ram back in and its doing the same.

I went from 1x4gb to 2x4gb gskill.
Mobo is a gigabyte p61.

Help. I cant believe I've done this.
