Hi all,
I have a Dell Precision T7500 workstation. Which currently has 4 GB (4 x 1GB) RAM.
I wan to upgrade it to 16 GB (4 x 4GB).

Can anyone suggest compatible RAM for this case. I can purchase only through Tigerdirect (company rule!).

A direct link to the product is much appreciated.

Thank you,

-SG

I am building a lot of Dell Tx500 workstations at the moment. They are coming off lease and are awesome deals.

The Dell Precision T7500 is capable of amazing RAM speeds, but Yours is currently misconfigured. It runs, but the RAM is slow. The Dell Precision T7500 runs Intel's 5520 chipset. That supports 3-channel DDR3 RAM at up to 1333 MHz if You use 1, 2, 4, or 8GB ECC DIMMs. It supports up to 1066MHz if You use 16GB DIMMs.

The Dell Prevision T7500 does something that the R5500 also does, but that the T5500 and T3500 do not do. There is a second memory controller on the T7500's second-processor-riser-card. That enables 3 additional memory channels.

Your system could be running 6 channels, all at once, if only the RAM was installed...
More information is needed. There are multiple CPU types that could be in that workstation as well as two different motherboards. It has could possibly have two different speeds of memory module installed so are you looking to add three more modules like the one you have, or are you planning to install four new modules. Both possible boards apparently support 6 modules (12 with riser adapter) so you could go either way although it's likely better to stay with all modules being of the same brand, speed, latency and timings.

If you download and run CPU-Z and look to the SPD tab, it should give you the model number of your current memory modules. Other tabs should provide identification of the CPU model (Dual and quad core are both possible) as well as the motherboard model itself.

I used the CPU-Z and here is the information from it

Number of processors 2 (Intel(R) Xeon(R) E5504 @ 2.00GHz)

Chipset
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Northbridge Intel 5520 rev. 13
Southbridge Intel 82801JR (ICH10R) rev. 00
Memory Type DDR3
Memory Size 4094 MBytes
Channels Dual
Memory Frequency 398.9 MHz (2:6)

DMI Physical Memory Array

usage System Memory
correction Multi-bit ECC
max capacity 196608 MBytes
max# of devices 12

DIMM 1, DIMM 2, RISER DIMM 1, and RISER DIMM 2 are populated with 1GB RAMs

I hope this helps.

Your system could be running 6 channels, all at once, if only the RAM was installed correctly. As It is, I suspect it is running 1 or 2 channels. To get the most speed out of Your RAM, install RAM in sets of 3.

To upgrade to about 16GB of RAM:

1. DO NOT buy 4x4GB DIMMs. Buy 2x1GB DIMMs and 3x4GB DIMMs to get a total of 4+2+12=18GB. This machine takes ECC RAM, either unbuffered or registered. You will need to match what You buy to what You have. (CPU-Z will tell You what You have.) Also match the clock speeds, if possible.

2. While observing all electrical and ESD precautions, pull the 2x1GB DIMMs off the riser and add the 3x4GB DIMMs there (where the white tabs hold the DIMMs on the riser.)

3. Add one DIMM to the 2 on the main board (where the white tabs hold the DIMMs on the main board.)

4. I don't think it matters where the other 3 go as long as they all go on the riser or the main board. I could be wrong about this last point. They will go where black tabs hold the DIMMs on.

Some details are available here, but it takes a LOT of digging to find out what all these Dell Precision Workstations are capable of.

One more thing...working inside to T7500 is not as trivial as working inside some gamer's home-brew rig. You will need the service manual: http://sivirt.utsa.edu/Documents/Manuals/precision-t7500_Service%20Manual_en-us.pdf

I am complete novice at computer upgrades - need to speed up my computer to run all Adobe products, AVS4You video software, surf multiple sites, currently my computer is taking sometimes ten minutes to load a file or program.

I am sure i need more ram but what type and how much and would the motherboard cope? or would i need to upgrade that too as well as the Processor?

Hi,
I am using dell T7500 as my home computer with 2gb of 750ti and 16 gb of Ram with 2gb per ram. Could you please guide me if there is any advantage in upgrading the ram from 16 gb to 96gb?
