Motherboard has both PCI-E x16 slots and PCI-E x16/x8 slots. What is the difference?

http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=152-HW-E878-KR is the motherboard I have, the site doesn't really show what I'm seeing as far as PCI-E slots on the actual motherboard. There are 2 slots (the first 2 closest to the CPU) that are labeled as x16/x8, then a x8, then another x16/x8..

Does x16/x8 mean it is BOTH x16 AND x8? I'm assuming the best option to put the GPU (http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=02G-P4-2663-KR) would be the first slot?

Will it run at x16 or x8?

I'm think everything will be fine if I just use the top slot, but I just want to be sure.

Thanks

Solution
If you are using one or two of the x16/x8 slots then they will run in x16 mode, if you are using all 3 ports that are labeled x16/x8 they will all run at 8x, if you are using all 4 slots then they will run at 8x.

The slot labeled as only x8 will only ever run as an 8x, the ones labeled x16/x8 will run at 16 or 8 depending on how many cards are in use.
