I put my computer to sleep, now it won't display anything

Hello! So I put my computer to sleep to go spend some time with my family. I came back and pressed the space bar to turn it back on. When I did so my LED mouse and keyboard would not turn on or light up, and my monitors would not detect my computer. The LED keys would flash for a second if you pressed them, but the computer would not "wake". So I tried restarting it. The fans would turn on, even the PSU fan, but the monitor, mouse, and keyboard were not working. I am hoping somebody can help me solve the problem.

Thanks!

The symptoms of a held power button are - system turns on and 4 seconds later it turns off (in some cases this cycles)

As a temporary fix - you can use the reset switch - by unplugging from the MB the Pwr and Plugging in the Reset Switch
Both are momentary hold on switches

Sleep = Nightmare on some systems

There are so many things that don't play well with sleep and power saving modes

Some monitors or TV wont wake back up
Some Keyboard/mice (Logitech & Windows 8) for instance seem to hate each other
3D D3D Screen savers have a tenancy to crash on sleep

Not to mention a host of other software that just doesn't play well when the hardware goes to sleep.

If your worried about power usage

The usually safe things to sleep usually are;
Monitor Sleep after 15 mins
HDD after 1 hour
And Hibernate may work perfectly

Software you can specify the power button or sleep button to do nothing or a specific task

zzz Apples with Apples... to much to explain
Chipset, Bios, Software, Drivers, O/S - All have to work together - if just 1 of these is using a slightly different standard issues can arise

On wake-up some signals don't get through or even sent as the hardware didn't know it was sleeping, or some hardware needed more time to wake up and self diagnose itself and the OS reported software as not responding and force closed it on sleep etc so much can go wrong here

Typically 1 in 3 systems will have some issue with sleep this number expands greatly on custom builds with multiple 3rd party devices
Windows 8 seems to excel in failing with custom hardware and sleep mode

My Logitech Cordless Keyboard and mouse was fine in Windows 7 - Same hardware and Windows 8 = No mouse and keyboard - have to unplug the USB dongle and plugs it back in again - Friend had same issues with completely different hardware but same Logitech hardware on Windows 8 also.

With the Last hardware update I get Blue screen on power save wake up now so i have turned it off.
Hibernate works fine though but I don't use it

Just reading back over posts... Is your Display working after power cycle? or did it just stop forever?

Check Cables power cycle monitor... If still nothing unplug monitor it should say no signal if you turn it on... if its still no go it may have a permanent power save mode called "dead monitor" so RMA it.

It went to sleep but didn't wake up. There seems to be a loose cable inside of the tower, it looks like it was connected to the motherboard at one point

Lets just check a couple of really Basic things;

1) Is Computer Power Cable plugged in and Turned on at the Wall and on back pf PSU?
2) When Pressing the power Button on the Front of the PC - does any thing Happen (any fans Spin? any Sound?)

You did mention the Power Button Sticks.

There are many cables inside the computer some may be spare or redundant
Do you have the Motherboard Manual?

There are system diagnostic PCI cards that display Error Codes
IE http://img4.fonder.com/img/v2/600260/1d74a1a4-7e73-460d-980c-6d992052191b.jpg

It is possible that something is causing an error and thus preventing a clean start
No Beeps is never a good sign
A Video Card Failure usually presents with beeps
No Mouse or Keyboard lights when turning on system is not good

Steps you Can try in this order
1) Unplug all devices from you computer (external HDD usb devices and keyboard and mouse everything)
Just leave in Power and Monitor Cable - Turn On (this is to test)

2) Reset the Bios - Refer your Manual

3) Remove Video Card - Use on board (if this is an option)

Let me know if anything changes after you have tried each step
