So here's what happened, I think a lightning fried my old MOBO somehow, so I got another one from DELL which took 20 days of waiting, that one also came broken.. So I got another, cheaper one instead as I couldn't afford to wait 2 months to get my PC back.

I got the Gigabyte B75M-D3H which seemed fine, but I had this issue whenever I played 3D games I would hear a loud looping-ish kind of sound, screen would turn black and my PC restarted, when I tried to play without my GeForce GT 740 GPU using the onboard updated intel graphics GPU instead this didn't happen at all, but the performance of onboard GPUs is just terrible. So I thought it was an issue with it.

Yesterday my GTX 970 GPU arrived and I thought it was working fine but just now, the exact same thing happened again as I was playing Rome 2 Total war, my game froze for a second with a loud looping-ish sound and then it just restarted.

I'm kind of freaking out as these repairs already cost me a fortune and I don't know what else to do, I have no clue on what could be the problem, i disabled the intel GPU through the bios, uninstalled it's drivers when I installed my new GPU and this is still happening, does anybody know what's up? =/

What is your PSU and the cpu? And what is your monitor? also the game setting. Next check the temp for either gpu and cpu too, using software like the hwmonitor.

From what you said, using the gt 740 for the 3D games ( Rome 2 Total war ) and the pc will crash and restarted, it may cause by the cpu or gpu because the game is the cpu and gpu intensive game. http://gamegpu.ru/rts-/-strategii/total-war-rome-ii-test-gpu.html If your cpu and gpu is not powerful then the game may crash. or maybe the temp too if the temp is high.

And when you upgrade the gpu to gtx970, you got the same problem, it maybe the PSU or the new gpu driver, or cpu temp is high. You need use the Guru3D - Driver Sweeper to clean up the old driver, then install the nvidia gpu driver for the gtx970, and try it if your PSU can power up the gtx970.

1000w PSU i7 3.4ghz CPU, HP w1907 monitor, right now ultra settings, doesn't seem to go below 60fps at any time.

I checked the CPU temperature with my old GPU and it never got above 45c. GPU was going over 90 tho, this one I didn't test yet so I'll try to get it's temp while I'm playing a game.

By the way before this whole incident happened, with that same old GPU I could play games like Rome 2 without a problem, obviously I had to play at medium/high settings and never touching any extreme configuration tho, I could also play Rome 2 with the onboard intel graphics card without any major problems with low settings and quite a bad performance at the campaign map but it never crashed or restarted like this either.

By the way, the old GT740 didn't even need a power connection and it was causing the same issue, does this eliminate the PSU as a possible culprit?

Yes, the not the psu. Run the MemTest86 to test the RAM. Also try update the driver, like the chipset driver for the b75 MB.
Also go to the event log to check out the error message to see what it is, so that you don't need to guess what causes the problem.

I don't have a CD to create a boot device for memtest right now I'll see if I can get it next week, kinda overloaded with uni work right now.

I downloaded every driver for my MOBO except the bios ones as I never really installed them and I got too scared of screwing up and ruining it permanently.

How do I check the event log?

It shows 1 critical and many errors, the critical one is within 24 hours, says 3 within 7 days too, it's called Kernel-Power, event ID 41, description says "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

Should I wait for it to happen again to be sure if this is it or something?
