stubborn 'unknown device' that has no drivers!

hi all,

my pc is running really slow. it gets stuck whenever a new program is launched. have video and audio stuttering. and have had to delete all games.

i have a desktop running windows xp. after much troubleshooting and searching online forums, i am trying this as the last recourse.

i have an unknown device under sound, video and game controllers. the device instance id is root\media\006.

there are no drivers installed for this device.

i had nvidia video card which i have removed. have also removed the modem card.

any help would be really appreciated.

You are right. But, need to sort This out before I shift all data to my new laptop.

Have you done any virus checks / spyware scans.
I find that usually this is the cause of slow pc's.

Try scanning using Spybot Search and Destroy and any good anti-virus product like AVG 2015 (Free version will do)
Perhaps that will give you enough of a boost for you to back that system up.

What if you go into this entry go to details tab and change it hardware ids. Paste whats there here

there is nothing under hardware ids.

device instance id is 'ROOT\MEDIA\0006

It maybe for a gameport

The device can't be installed as it says it's required for booting. also, doesn't have any driver installed.
