Is it ok to assume that ddr3 ram should work on ddr3 supported mother board?

I recently bought Kingston HyperX FURY Blue HX316C10FK2/8 8G Kit (4Gx2) DDR3 1600MHz. When I plug the new sticks in, Windows wouldn't start. According to my motherboard (GA-P55-USB3) specification, it supports up to 16GB of DDR3. The guy at the store told me that my motherboard is too old for the RAMs. Can that be true? Please advise.

I'm currently using G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-4GBECO DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 2GBx2, and they are working fine.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. The HyperX Fury memory or any of our current DDR3 memory will not work properly on your system since our 4GB memory is now high density. The Intel 5-series chipsets and earlier do not support high density 4Gbit DRAM. Our 4GB DDR3 memory was made with low density 2Gbit DRAM until recently as it is no longer available. Easier way of thinking of it is if the motherboard supports 8GB modules than it will support high density 4GB memory since they are both made with 4Gbit DRAM. For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.
Its entirely possible that your RAM wont work with an old motherboard like that. It could also have incompatible timings. Never ran into a RAM problem, but some people swear by the QVL (qualified vendor list) that manufacturers put on their sites.

Hello... You need to make sure the Ram is paired into the Same color slots... lets test the new ones first. B )
1) try the new ones only as a set, in your White ram slots.
2) try the new ones only as a set, in your blue ram slots.
What are your results?

Thank you for the quick reply guys.
This is what I've tried so far.

Both in white slots: able to go to BIOS setting, shown 8GB detects but Windows won't start.
Swapped the RAMs: same result
Single RAM in white slot: can't even go to BIOS setting, got to the POST screen then beep and restarted
Tried the other single RAM: same result

I have updated the BIOS firmware to version F8 which is said improve memory support, load optimized setting, reload CMOS from BIOS.

does putting the RAMs in white slot or blue make any different?

Hello... SO...saving the settings in your BIO's made no difference? i'm wondering if you have a security setting in your Windows set to not BOOT with any hardware changes? have you played with security settings? or are they set for default?
What is the message that comes up When Windows doesn't BOOT?

Yeah saving the settings made no different :(. The Windows security could be a potential issue but I did try to do a fresh install when I first installed the RAMs.
It just stuck at "Windows is starting" screen (right after it copied all the files from DVD). So I put the old RAMs back in, did a fresh Windows installed. After Windows installed and all was good, put the new RAMs in, Windows wouldn't load.

Hello... 1) Do you have performance MB mode on or XMP modes set? shut these off and set MB performance to standard mode... Save settings and Exit.
2) another option at this time I would suggest removing your CMOS battery and clearing your BIO's settings as per your MB manual/pdf suggests... and try the New pair agian.

Hello.. I have seen these before with the Kingston BLUE models... http://www.kingston.com/us/hyperx/memory/fury "Compatible with H67, P67, Z68, Z77, Z87 and H61 Intel chipsets, as well as A75, A87, A88, A89, A78 and E35 AMD chipsets " read the fine print before buying RAM.
Take them back and get a different Model of RAM sticks... LOL...
Your MB is fine you just need to search for the proper memory for your MB... were they a very GOOD deal over others?
* in fact the Guy at the store is Correct.

With the new stick, there is no XMP option available. On the G.Skill, the XMP option is available.
I tried setting the performance to standard without success.. :(

Hi Jewel, thank you for your clarification.
Can I ask you two more questions here since I'm from Australia and cannot call the number you've provided.
From yours and/or Kingston's point of view, is it expected that the consumer should know all the information you've provided before making the purchase to avoid any compatibility issues?

And is it true that once the seal has been broken, and there is nothing wrong with the RAMs, they cannot be returned?

Thank you.

We don't assume and recommend checking our memory search to see what memory is compatible with your system. If your system is not listed than it may be listed in our Discontinued models search which would show memory that is not longer being manufactured that would have been compatible.
Memory Search: http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search/options/
Discontinued Models Search: http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search/discontinuedsystems/Default.aspx
We also have support in Australia reachable by email at anz_support@kingston.com
Returns are handled by the place of purchase and if that is there policy that is their policy. We would only be able to replace the memory under warranty if found faulty.

Hello... 1) Since all responses/searches to your above links report DISCONTINUED... what does Kavah need to look for on a Label, to determine if the RAM is "LOW Density"? and Compatiable.
2) 1Rx4, 1Rx8, 2Rx4, 2Rx8 ?
3) AS this seems like a very easy way for a Consumer to Make a better educated decision. As your WEB site AND packaging does not include such information? Would this information be important for HIM at this time, to proceed in his Goal of a Memory purchase?

On a 4GB module 2R means Dual Rank which would be low density and 1R is single rank which is high density. All of our current 4GB memory modules will be 1R, so if looking for Kingston memory kavah would need to look for discontinued models. This information is included on the datasheets of HyperX and ValueRAM memory parts.

Hello... 1) Did the Retailer provide you, before purchase, or Check the Kingston Website before selling the "UN-Compatiable" Ram sticks for your MB? As you have said, that he provided such information after the Purchase?
2) What does it take to become a Kingston Ram retailer? Did the retailer not follow a "Kingston Condition/Rule/Policy" in this transaction?
3) Is there a Kingston "Home- TOY Story" or Place that 'Discontinued - UN-Wanted" Ram sticks go to?
Or is this a Retailer alone stocking/selling problem?

Hi Ironsounds,

The retailer didn't ask any question nor provided any information at the time of the purchase. When I asked for an exchange, and gave him my MB model, he just simply said that it's too old. I asked him why that's the case, he didn't have a clue.

"The HyperX Fury memory or any of our current DDR3 memory will not work properly on your system since our 4GB memory is now high density."

According to Jewel's comment, exchange is not an option as non of their DDR3 RAMs will work with my MB.

"Returns are handled by the place of purchase and if that is there policy that is their policy. We would only be able to replace the memory under warranty if found faulty."

RMA is probably is out of the question too as there is nothing wrong with the RAMs hence the retailer won't refund or exchange.

May have to sell it on Ebay...
