I have an fx-6300 cpu(gigabyte 970A-UD3P mobo) and im looking to pair it with an 280x gpu.But lately i started reading all the forums in the site about next-gen games, and most of the lads vote for nvidia. Is it better to pair the 6300 with an nvidia card, for games like unity, dota 2 and farcry 4,cod aw,which are the games i will mostly play in the future,or pair it with and amd card?I heard amd are far away from achieving nvidia card's performances, and im confused about which gpu to choose.Thoughts guys!

P.S.I have an 300 euro spent limit for the gpu,and probably ill oc the cpu to avoid bottlenecking in the future.

to be honest, buy the most powerful you can find in your budget ..nvidia and amd are head to head in gpu wars... looking at the 300 euro budget, i suggest you to wait untill r9 300 releases... prices will drop and you might be able to grab a 290x or a 295x for that price :) .... if you buy amd, then always opt for sapphires vapour x or asus direct cuii top edition.... both are cool and quiet card brands

PS: asus direct cuii top edition cards are facory overclocked, so you dont need to do it :)

as i dont know ur budget
an know a days amd is not recommended as the top 5 games of this and next year is made buy nvidia

for next gen u need at least a geforce gtx 750 ,760,770,780 or higher 900 or even a titan

for budget around 120$ i would say a 750 gtx
and higher card or from 600 seris 660 ,670,680,690 are also good and the least recommended is gtx 580 so go for nvidia for this year or next

The FX 6300 even after overclocking would bottleneck anything greater than a GTX 770 or r9 280. Unless OP plans on upgrading, anything above that will not fetch much performance gain over the GTX 770 or r9 280. So they are the best options unless a CPU upgrade is planned. Overclocking does not remove the bottleneck, atleast not on high settings. So there is not much performance gain on spending above the GTX 770 or R9 280x. There are instances of this CPU bottlenecking those GPU's too.

fx6300 doesnt bottleneck anything if it is overclocked to 4ghz and higher

tried it.. tested it.. ran an r9 295x2 with it at 4.6ghz

what top 5 games are you talking abt? watchdogs? broken ,assassins creed unity ? terribly broken, farcry 4? slightly broken.. what nvidia optimised game wasnt broken this year..

Please post benchmarks. I cannot believe that.

There really is not much advantage for going with one or the other. The most important thing is to look at your budget and determine which one is the best there. Some games tend to favor nVidia, some games tend to favor AMD. Generally, the AMD cards have a better performance at the same price, but tend to use more power than nVidia cards.

I personally love my AMD cards. I wouldn't go with nVidia on principle, since I dislike their business practices. AMD is more open in that regard.

i am not a reviewer so i dont do benchmarks.. it was an upgrade for my friend who went from a xfx 290 to xfx 295x2

he used to run his 6300 at 4ghz with the 290 .. when he upgraded, i helped him overclock to 4.5ghz.. it just needed a lil voltage bump .. ran some 4k gaming and 1080p gaming.. everything seems fine :)

The bottlenecks of the FX series are often blown out of proportion. Games will maybe tend to run at 110 fps rather than 140, but if you have a 60 Hz monitor, who cares? The lower the framerate, the smaller the difference in the bottleneck. Under 60 fps the difference is usually a mere 1 fps. In extreme cases it can reach 10-15 fps though, but the GPU is more often a bottleneck than the CPU. If your CPU is bottlenecking, guess what, increase the graphics settings and your CPU bottleneck will be less.

What I intend to say is after a certain level i.e an r9 280x, the fps remains the same or will gain only by 1-5%. This small gain does not justify the extra cost paid. Because that processor cannot handle the full potential of higher cards.
