We have budget of £600 and limited experience! Having researched on the web the prosposed spec is:
Asus B85M-E Intel S1150 Motherboard
MSI Radeon R9 270X Gaming 2G AMD Graphics Card - 2GB
Cooler Master GM-Series G550M 550W PSU - 80 PLUS Bronze
Intel G3258 Pentium K Anniversary Socket 1150 Dual Core Processor (Haswell) Overclock to 4.5Ghz*
Crucial MX100 128GB SATA III 6GB/s Solid State Drive SSD
Corsair Memory Vengeance Red Low Profile 8GB DDR3 1866 MHz CAS 9-10-9-27 Dual Channel Desktop
HOT SELLER

Does this seem to be good package or are there better compnents in this price range we should be looking at please?

Not too bad, however its not guaranteed the G3258 will acheive 4.5ghz ... that said ive not come across anyone who hasnt .. but your best using a closed loop water cooler for stability as you wont get anything above 3.5ghz with the intel stock cooler
also the R9 270x may be bottlenecked by the G3258 .... with just 2 cores and a 3mb cache you may be better off sacrificing the ssd and going with a core i3 or i5 .... granted overclocking the unlocked pentium G3258 to the dizzy heights of 4.5ghz will produce solid frame rates but that processor isnt the best choice for a serious gaming rig ... something like the inexpensive "Intel Core i3 4160 Dual Core Processor Retail"(...

on the other side keep the ssd and go with a R7 260X and the difference between that and the R9 270X would allow you to get the i3 4160 without going over budget ....!
finally for around the same price as the "asus B85M-E" you could get the "B85M-G43 Intel S1150 Asus Micro-ATX Motherboard"( http://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-b85m-g43-intel-b85-s-1150-ddr3-sata-iii-6gb-s-pcie-30-(x16)-d-sub-dport-dvi-d-hdmi-matx ) .. apart from having 4 memory slots ( compared to 2 ) it also supports crossfire so you can add a second AMD card at a later date .... remember to consider future upgrades when buying your initial components .. it saves money in the longrun !
hope this helps !

This was really helpful - and a bit more research led me to think that spending a bit more to get the i5 would be worth it. So If I went for the i5 4670 k, stayed with the R9 270x graphics card and uped the motherboard to an Asus z97 Pro (which has in built wifi) would that be good balanced fast gaming computer? i know it blows the budget a bit!
