No internet access after installing MB drivers

So I built a new PC back in august with brand new parts but I couldn't get the Ethernet cable connector on the back panel of the motherboard (MSI z97 Gaming 3) working. Luckily, I had a spare Ethernet card in my old PC which I installed in the new one and then I could connect to the internet.
Today however, I thought I'd look through the drivers on the CD that came with the MB to see if there was anything I'd missed, which there was. I installed everything including a LAN related driver but when i restarted the PC I had no internet connection at all. Neither the MB nor the Ethernet card were working and they both had their LED's switched on while the cable was plugged in.
I have absolutely no idea what to do here other than return the MB to the store through the warrant.
If anything is unclear I'm sorry, I will try and provide all the information you may or may not need.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I ran BIOS and the MB explorer tells me that the Ethernet port is disconnected. What does that mean and how do i connect it?

It's the onboard one that's disconnected according to my BIOS. Where do i enable it?

EDIT: According to the device manager the onboard ethernet port has this weird Code 19 error: Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged

That disconnected message may mean the cable isnt connected to it. If it is then the cable maybe faulty.

You can enable / disable the onboard LAN in the bios. Cant tell you where it is on yours I dont have the same mobo. Look in the manual

That error code 19 can mean something has added itself to upperfilters or lowerfilters in the registry.

This can block whatever and stop it from working. You can get the same error with cd's / dvd's / burners. It stops them from recognising anything you put in it.

What version of windows is on it?

I've tested with two different cables and both work fine on my laptop so the problem isn't there.

Still no luck enabling it in the BIOS and all the manual said were things related to overclocking.

I managed to solve the error code 19 by installing new drivers and according to the device manager the onboard port should work fine now but it's still disconnected.

I'm running windows 7 64-bit.

Thank you for trying to help me BTW.

I had some free version of McAfee Security Scan plus at one point but i uninstalled it a few days ago

Windows network diagnostics said this: There might be a problem with the driver for the local area network connection 3 adapter

I've used the removal tool + reboot and still no internet connection through either of the ports. This is so weird

EDIT: I noticed now that only one of the two LED's (onboard) are blinking. The one that isn't on indicates that it's got no link activity. The one that's on indicates that I have a 1 Gbps connection. The Ethernet Card lights up like it should

I got tired of it all so I just reinstalled Windows 7 and now everything works fine. I think that it was the drivers from the MB CD that messed with everything. Thanks for all the help man :D
