Okay, So I made the mistake of buying a second Alienware (18in, mid 2013). I am having an issue with my graphics cards.

Basically at random times the screen (external monitor and laptop display) will flash colored lines or white lines every 10 seconds for about a hour and then stop.

I have ran diagnostics (dell diagnostics) and it came back clean and re-installed latest drivers... I do keep the PC by my dorm window and it does get a good amount of cold air blowing on the computer so maybe the fluctuations in temp?

Extra Info:
I don't run the machine hard constantly, basically use it for coding, and watching movies (sometimes VLC just loops a movie all night).

I do render a few after effects videos here and there.

Average GPU load is ~30% with an average temp of 120f.

I keep the computer on almost all the time, fell out of the habit of putting it to sleep when not in use.

Solution
Uninstall the drivers with DDU driver uninstaller follow the instructions dont update when asked than it should say something about taking you to safe mode click yes or okay than once in safe mode open the application click Uninstall driver and Restart after that download the latest Drivers.
IF that does not help, Than it means that your card is dying and you will need to replace it /:

I haven't tried the solution yet, will over the weekend. I hope it works, when I first received the computer after using it for 20 minutes the monitor just stopped working, ran graphics diagnostic on boot and it showed the colors etc... but just wouldn't display when booting into windows but the external monitor worked.. used it for a few days with a monitor while waiting for a technician and then one day it randomly worked when I turned it on.

Also sometimes when I unplug the charger it will freeze for 5 seconds then blue screen with the watch dog error, think its something with the msata drive.

Needless to say this is the last Alienware/dell I will buy for myself or my business. Very annoying when you spend close to 3k on a computer and it starts having problems after 20min.

I love toms hardware, but weird that this is showing up on my news feed. I plan on getting an Alienware steambox, er machine, er Alpha. I hope this is not an indication of what's to come.

Have you considered maybe just getting rid of it? .... I used Origin PC's trade up system for my old AW 14" and got more than I expected for it.
Just ended up buying one of their 15's and no problems here. Just a thought.
