Newly installed operating system, new wireless adapter, can't connect to internet.

I had to reinstall the operating system on my desktop. I installed Windows 7 Home Premium and bought an Edimax EW-7811Un wireless adapter to make it so I could connect wirelessly. The only issue is that it won't display pages on Internet Explorer. I'd love to download and install another browser, but can't.

What's really odd is that I can ping any page I want and get a timely response. I just can't connect from a browser.

I've tried:
Reinstalling the drivers,
Resetting Internet Explorer,
Checking the status of the adapter,
And a few other things just to narrow down what the problem might be.

So far, all signs say that I should be connected. But I can't connect. Not even other programs that would connect to the internet to download various things (for instance, Windows Updater) can connect or download. It's driving me nuts!

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do?

Try changing your DNS. In the network control panel select change adapter settings, then right click and select properties of the adapter being used. Double click on Internet Protocol Version 4 to bring up the properties, on the general tab in the bottom section click the choice to select your own DNS server. Enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as the primary and secondary -- they are the Google public DNS. See if that helps.

Thank you for solving my problem! I read somewhere that changing the DNS server would help, but I didn't know both the addresses so it didn't help the first time around. Now everything seems to be working. If something else happens, though, I'll be back here for sure. Again, thanks. You deserve ALL the points!
