Hi all,

I am looking to build my first gaming PC and I could use some advice on parts to buy. My aim is to build a machine that will be able to play next-gen games and performs all other tasks smoothly at a budget of around £800.

Having had a look around for parts I have come up with the following:

Case: Bitfenix Comrade Midi-Tower
Motherboard: Gigabye Z97P-D3 Intel797 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Processor: Not sure - any suggestions?
RAM: 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM
Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX970 4GB
Primary Storage: 250GB Samsung 840 Evo Series 2.5" SATA 6GB/s SSD
Secondary Storage: 1TB Seagate Barracuda 3.5" SATA Hard Drive
Power Supply: 750W Corsair Builder Series CX750M 8PLUS Bronze Modular Power Supply

So really, I just wanted to check if I am along the right lines with my choices, and also to make sure all of the parts are compatible. Any suggestions for a processor or alternatives to other choices would be welcome too.

Thanks in advance.

Try to avoid the CX series power supplies; they are made with cheap components and are not the most reliable. You do not need more than 500W to run that configuration in any case.

For RAM, probably the best price/performance is DDR3-1600 with 7 latency, the G.Skill Ripjaws comes to mind (true speed is roughly the clock speed divided by latency).

If you can afford it, an i5-4670K leaves overclocking open in the future; if not, perhaps an i5-4440. No need to overclock anyway for the foreseeable future; those CPUs are more than powerful enough on their own.

How much is what you have now? 750W is a lot of power for what you have, though it's not totally out of the question. you could possibly save some money towards a better CPU by going down to a 600W PSU.

A core i5-4690K would complement that build pretty nicely I think, if it's in budget.

With your apparent budget, I think a i5-4690K would be appropriate.
I like all the other parts, excepting perhaps the case. It is a good looking case but has limited air intale space for good cooling.

If you are looking for an inexpensive case, the Antec GX500 will be better at about the same price.

There are many others.

Corsair cx is just ok.
Here is a list of good quality psu's. 550-650w would be right.

Thanks for all of your answers. Amended my possible build as follows:

Case: Bitfenix Comrade Midi-Tower
Motherboard: Gigabye Z97P-D3 Intel797 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Processor: I5-4690K
RAM: G-skill RipjawsX 8GB DDR3 RAM
Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX970 4GB
Primary Storage: 250GB Samsung 840 Evo Series 2.5" SATA 6GB/s SSD
Secondary Storage: 1TB Seagate Barracuda 3.5" SATA Hard Drive
Power Supply: Corsair CS550M 550W Semi-Modular 80+ GOLD Certified Power Supply

As above I have changed the power supply (not sure about this), changed the RAM and added in the i5-4690K processor as suggested. Not sure about changing the case - would the current case cause problems with the PC given lack of space?

Thanks again.
