Currently i've got my SSD connected to my sata port running at 3Gb (there are 6 of these ports IIRC), however there are 2 ports that say they run at 6Gb. My problem is whenever i connect it to these ports the SSD appears as an IDE drive.

My question is how can i get my SSD to run at the advertised speeds or is it not possible with my old motherboard. I understand that a complete windows reinstall would be required.

I'm rather bad with Motherboards and this is my first SSD so don't spare any details :)

Solution
The 2x6Gb are from the Marvell® PCIe 9128 controller, within the BIOS, you should be able to change from IDE to AHCI mode.

To be honest though, the performance of Marvell controllers suck for an O/S drive, leave it on the Intel ICH10R controller, as even at 3Gb it is still faster.
