Ok so I have a gtx770 combined with a 4.0ghz fx8320. I am trying to play arma 3 on multiplayer and I keep getting around 15-22 fps non stop. No matter what settings really.. I don't understand what theproblem is, I understand arma 3 isn't the best game to test on but when friends with worse setups get 30fps on the same server something is wrong. I'm running Windows 7. It's installed on a 10k rpm hard drive. Gpu is 4xOC windforce 4gb gtx770. Gpu is amd fx8320 OC to 4ghz.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this really sucks

It's Arma 3. The game only uses two cores, so you need all the single core performance you can get. Unfortunately, AMD doesn't do too well in that department. But, here are some things you can try:

First, make sure you are set to high performance mode. Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options and select high performance mode.

Second, add this to your Arma launch parameters:

-NoFilePatching -NoSplash -SkipIntro -cpuCount=8 -world=empty -maxMem=8192 (Note that max memory is set to 8 GB, so if you have less memory you will need to set it to use less).

Lastly, unpark your cores.

I understand it's better for single core. But that can't possibly be the reason for such low fps can it? I know Intel wins that war but surely amd isn't that bad for arma. There's others with amd that have higher fps than me.

I have the launch perimeters already in I got from a guide online how to increase fps on arma.

how do I unpark the cores?

Is it nice being a smart-ass? If you don't have anything constructive to add move along...

@kirbyn - exacly what frag06 said - per core performance - its not a question of when you bought your CPU - the model is old; its been in production since 2012 and even then wasn't that good for gaming.

Download the utility and run the program. Then just scan and unpark.

The majority of users with issues are running AMD CPU's. You need good single core performance. If the game was using four cores, it wouldn't be a problem, but when it only uses two cores you need good single core performance.

It's perfect for biased inaccurate statements. Just as frag06 said, the issue isn't the CPU. Arma 3 is poorly optimized and is tailored as a single thread application. There are tons of threads where people discuss having trouble playing the game. I find it funny that you point me out for not providing constructive help yet your first response is....yeah, exactly.

But I'll stop now. Proceed.

I'm not an expert, just trying to help here... but,

check your in-game CPU and GPU usage %'s -- maybe this will tell you where you're underperforming (although you should be fine on both counts)

What Power Supply do you have? Is your GPU getting enough power to it e.g. both PCIe power cables hooked up?

Kirbyn, frag06 has you on the right path to getting better performance. Arma uses both CPU and GPU and as stated only uses two cores. I have had similar problems with that series and just don't play it anymore because of the poor (IMHO) optimization.
