Core i3 4360 or the i5 4570 for mid-range gaming PC?

Hi there,

I've seen quite a few online comparisons between the two. Can anyone suggest the right CPU to be pared with a mid-range GTX 750 ti graphics card? PC will mostly be used for gaming and the odd video editing. If I really don't need the i5, I would like to get the i3. I have the i3 available for around $100. while the i5 is sitting at $140. How much do CPU clock speeds and cores matter? Help!

Since you want to edit video go with the i5 4570. It will game better.

What games are you going to be playing? I'm sure pretty much everyone will say to go with the i5. It will help with the video editing.

well the i3 mentioned has unusually brilliant single threaded performance but is 2 hyperthreaded cores which will always be inferior to the i5 mentioned as it has 4 physical cores and 4 cores means better in modern video games and computer software. but the price difference is a good 40-80$ depending on where you live. i5 is just a luxury!

The i3-xxxx is as good a gamer as the fastest AMD CPUs. I have built with several i3s. They will keep up with any card. Video editing may benefit form the 4 real cores rather than the 4 hyper threaded pseudo cores of the i3, however.

As I stated, the i3 will not bottle neck any single GPU card. The IPC is too high.

well how long it takes to render depends on the program and the speed of the processor. if it has more cores and a high clock speed it will be faster. but not by lots

Exactly. 4 cores will always out perform two HT cores in video editing... all else being equal.

that money can go into a second harddrive or ssd if you edit and record game footage anyway
