Firstly, I apologize if this is the incorrect category for this question. I am a new member but I have been visiting Tom's Hardware for quite some time to review some information given to other members about CPU's and processors that are similar to the ones I have. I am vaguely familiar with how this works, so bear with me.

Second, I have a fan ready to attach. The only problem is I don't know specifically where to attach it. I have one fan in the back of my PC about half-way between the center and the top. This new fan is much bigger than the other one so it will not fit inside my PC (medium shell). Therefore it will be outside my PC to help cool it. If I have to I can cut out a hole in the side plate to mount it, but I'd rather this be a last resort. My dad and I are already thinking about mounting it on the very top and letting the rising heat cycle out much faster since the fan spins at a high RPM. But I'd rather get a second opinion first. This is an exhaust fan if anyone asks.

Thank you for your time.

Solution
Typically i would match 1 to 1 the number of intake fans with the exhaust fans, The exhaust fans usually go on the back/top, and the intakes on the front/bottom. If the new fan you have is bigger then the exhaust fan then i would either replace the new one in the spot of the old one (and use the old one as an intake) :: or use your new one as an intake mounting it to the bottom front to pull cool air in and keep the old exhaust fan in the same spot.
