4 gigs usable out of 6 (Photos Inside)

Hello,
i need help to fix this issue.
Specs:
I7 930
GIGABYTE X58A UD3R
Kingston Hyperx 6 gigs triple channel 1600 MHz (Memory specs: http://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/KHX1600C9D3K3_6GX.pdf ) (in addition: channel 1 dosnt load those 2 gigs)
HD 5850

reseat you DIMMS. Use one stick and try it in all slots at a time. If all is good you can try the 3 of them again.

i didnt quite understand what you mean.. your saying i should put only 1 card instead of 3?

yes, for testing all 3 the slots. If anything is wrong with a DIMMslot you will notice when using just one stick.

slot number 1 isnt working like i said... i test it befor so how will it start my computer with 1 stick on the slot thats not working?

test the other 5 slots, and if slot 1 isnt working its most likely the slot on the other side isnt working properly as well, unfortunately

so how do i fix it? because it does says that 6 gigs are installed... but only 4 usable

like i said, trial and error, you have to check which slots doesnt work properly and find a way around it.

btw when i start the computer i have this messege: Detecting DRAM size and then reboot for 3 times...

try to seat more then one DIMM then. clear CMOS for default settings and retry

well i try with 1 DIMM on slot 1 and the computer dosnt show anything... also CMOS got reset

OK, now check if slot 2 works, then slot3 and so on!

on slot 2 it does fast beeps and also not showing anything

try to seat all DIMMS in the specified slots according to your mobo's manual, im afraid i cannot give eny more tips.

1 and 2 dosnt work... the rest is fine

contact the store you got the motherboard from and explain your probelm, if its in the guarantee period you most likely get a replacement.

so il put it 2 that works on dual channel and 1 stick alone? on 3, 4, and 5?

You can do that, you still have the 6 GB available like that, only downside is it runs in single channel that way. Send an email to your PC store you got the mobo from and most likely they come with a solution!

i bought this pc 5 years ago. i have no guarantee.

In addition to the single channel stick, can i add one thats completely different? such as: Kingston 4 gig 1333Mhz. SPECS: http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/kvr1333d3n9_4g.pdf

can it be done?

not recommended at all, it may work it may not work. i wont try to use different ram unless they have the exact same specs, timing and voltage.

so its better to use 6 gigs like what i have instead of adding another 4 gigs to 10. right?

yes, it would be (mind my words) a waste of money buying new RAM for a 5 yr old PC. You are better of getting a new (or Used) mobo+CPU with a newer chipset and socket.

well this computer still works great! i think i can handle another 2 years with it!
