I have 8 gigabytes of RAM and my computer only detects 4 gigabytes
It used to work, but one day i noticed my computer was a bit slower while playing battlefield 4, so I checked my performance in task manager, and showed 3.5/4 being used.

So I turned off my computer, and tested each ram chip, and it turns out that it's one of my ram slots on my motherboard that died, the RAM is fine.

BUT as I check system information, this comes up... I'm confused and don't know what to do.

It detects the 8 GB, but it's only using 4?? What?

Solution
Is your windows copy 64 bit?
Are the RAM sticks properly inserted?
Are they set for dual channel? (stick - free slot - stick - free slot)

Have you changed the paging file size?
If not, go to Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > Settings under 'Performance' > Advanced Tab > Change under 'Virtual memory'.
Here, you can set the paging file size to be set automatically, or you can set the size manually yourself.

Also, Go into MSCONFIG advanced options again and UNCHECK the 'maximum memory' box, then reboot.

If this doesn`t work, turn off your PC, remove the BIOS battery, remove the RAM, re-insert the battery, and afterwards set the RAM back into the slots.
