How important are Cpu cores for modern games ?

Hello :)
I want to buy new hardware for my pc.
My question: is the Athlon II X2 280 good enough for modern games like battlefield 4, crysis 3 etc. ? And what´s more important in a cpu for games, Ghz or cores ?

Cpu : http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/AMD-Athlon-II-X2-280-2x-3-60GHz-So-AM3-TRAY_843119.html

Gpu : GeForce GTX 750 Ti
Ram: 10 Gbit DDR3
mobo : MCP61M-M3

Thx in advance :)

More about important cpu cores modern games
  1. theres more to cpus than just cores and ghz , look at intel cpus they have 4 core i5's which beat 8core amd cpus
  2. whats your budget ill find a cpu which is good enough
  3. if on a small budget the haswell pentium is a gamers dream
  4. Thx :) , but i have to admit i dont know much more about cpus than that :D However, how good is the Athlon II X2 280 for gaming ? or where can i look it up ?
  5. You cannot determine the performance of a CPU just by its frequency and number of cores. The technology on which they are made also affects performance.

That Athlon dual core is not ideal for gaming.

Tell us your budget and we'll help you pick the best you can get from that site.
  6. truthfully its not the best and new games will not perform even "good"
  7. My budget for a cpu is ~ 80 €
but i cant also afford a new mainborad, and my current one´s base is Am3 .
How come poeple here be so nice :) ?
  8. computer people are nice
  9. Btw, my current cpu : AMD Athlon II X2 220
  10. It depends on the game honestly. Some games like all source engine games benefit greatly from a good CPU, CIV5, etc, while others are more GPU intense.

If you dont want to spend a lot go for something like this:

***I dont think any game at the moment uses more than 4 cores, most games dont really utilize more than 2 fully. Any CPU with more that 4 cores is a waste for gaming IMO***
  11. amazon uk sells the Amd Fx 4300 Black edition for £ 63.99 which is 81.62 euros
  12. 200 € is too much for me :c
if u say cores arent so extremely important , can the cpu i want to be be "good" enough ? Athlon II X2 280

That website doesn't have a wide enough selection of AM3 processors. They only have up to dual cores listed.

Find another site, you're looking for something like an Phenom X4 965 quad core.
  15. Thx amd4life, but the base says AM3+, and my mobo has AM 3, is this compatible?
