Okay, so this is a long one and I've already done a fair bit of troubleshooting but with no luck.
I Bought a EVGA 970 graphics card to swap out for my Zotac 580, usually this is a simple 3 minute job at the max, however this has turned into a hair pulling hourly long job.
Firstly: the 580 worked fine, plugging in the 970 and hooking it up correctly only makes the fans spin on bootup, however they spin regardless if the external power is hooked up, so that power is clearly drawn from the PCI.
So I swapped it out for my 580, that still works fine, so I tried taking my girlfriends 660 TI and plugging it in mine, same deal, won't work, however MY 970 works fine in hers.
So all cards appear to be in working condition, but my computer will not accept anything but my 580, so here is what I've tried:
Flash, reset and updating of BIOS, as well as resetting to default.
Uninstalling old graphics driver
Tried both PCIe slots
Called EVGA tech support, told me to contact MSI, but I can't since they need my motherboards model number, which I can't find.
My specs:
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1
Intel Core i7 2600K @ 3.40GHz
16,0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 corsair Vengeance
MSI Z68A-GD65 (G3) (MS-7681)
Now I am well aware that my CPU doesn't support PCIe 3.0, and my Girlfriend does, which is why I believe it works flawless there, however according to everything I know this shouldn't pose any kind of problem, more so because on 3Dmark someone with the exact same MB and graphics card though in sli works fine.
I'm stumped, it must be something to do with my PCIe ports, but I have no clue what.
