Hey guys, I just got my new motherboard, hard drive, and CPU in the mail yesterday.

My motherboard has an 8 pin cpu power port, and my PSU only has a 4 pin connector. Luckily, in the manual it shows where to plug the 4 pin into the 8 pin port.

Regardless, I plug everything in, turn it on, and all of the lights on the mobo, fans, etc. turn on... but no beeps, and no display.
I've tried plugging 3 different HDMI's into both GPU and onboard ports, as well as VGA, no difference...

I'm really praying that this is some fault of my own and that my brand new motherboard isn't DOA, as I've already waited weeks for it to finally get here.

Even if I unplug my GPU and just plug an HDMI / VGA into the mobo, nothing happens.

I've posted on other forums but no one has responded, and in the time that's elapsed I may have broken my CPU by dicking with it further...

I tried everything possible including flipping the v switch on my PSU, and then when I tried powering on without the CPU cooler on, I felt the CPU and it was almost burning hot to the touch.

There's nothing outwardly wrong with my CPU, and it's performance (or lack thereof) isn't any different than it was yesterday.

I got my Newegg RMA on the motherboard just incase, but I'm not entirely sure if it was necessary or will change anything, except to determine whether or not the mobo is indeed the culprit.

I'm certainly no expert but this is not my first build, and is the only time I've come across anything like this.

I put everything aside from my CPU (different pin type) back on my old motherboard, and it works just fine.

As far as the beeps are concerned, I'm not even sure if there's a speaker built into this mobo, I have an extra one, but nowhere to plug it in.

Yes, I'm sure I have the CPU in correctly, and no, I have not messed with the CMOS as I have absolutely no clue where to start on this, and am fairly sure it wouldn't change anything given that I bought this motherboard new.

Relevant specs:
MSI A88XM GAMING FM2+
AMD Athlon X4 860K Quad-Core 3.7GHz
XFX Radeon HD 7800 series
DDR3 Ram...

PSU could be the issue I suppose, but it works with my old motherboard, so I assume not.

I don't remember what the wattage is, and I would have to remove it from the case to find it, which I'm down to do if I have to... I know it's a thermaltake though.

I know there are an endless number of similar threads on this forum, but none of them have solved my plight.

Any advice is greatly, greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Solution
I told you.

Either a shop or buy another cpu it supports thats it. If the BIOS version isnt on the mobo or box, theres no way of telling what BIOS is on it

No shop no CPU no mobo, return it
One reason it doesnt have 1.1 of the BIOS on it. If this isnt on the mobo already it wont do anything.

It needs BIOS 1.1 to support that CPU

Athlon X4 Kaveri AD860KXBI44JA 860K 100 3.7 4M N/A A1 95 N/A 7903v11.zip

Does it have a BIOS version on the box or on the mobo somewhere?

Is the CPU supported? Also you might want to buy a new PSU with 2x4Pin power or a 8Pin Power. Also most CPU's that are 4-8+ Core need 8Pin power... other wise they wont work at all....

Well, I bought them together in a bundle on Newegg, so I'd assume...
Not really an assumption, I'm positive it is.

Also, It shows very clearly in the manual how to plug a 4 pin into the 8 pin spot, and I don't think the cpu would be getting hot if it wasn't running.

Also there is a 2x4 pin, or rather, the 4 pin splits into two.
:/

Sorry for noobish answer, but I see nothing about the BIOS on the box or board itself, or even how I'd go about updating them with no display.

I already bought this CPU bundled with the Mobo, I can't really just buy another one, and I'm not sure what would make a different CPU compatible when everything seems to meet this one's specifications.

I've scoured the box / board / manual for anything regarding BIOS versions and there's nothing.
Could the issue really be something this trivial?

If so, it really upsets me that Newegg would bundle two incompatible components together in a sale....

I'm in the middle of nowhere currently with no access to a shop that could do anything of the sort.

This list seems to indicate that it's compatible

Ok, well, if this is the case then I don't know what to do.

It makes no since to me that they would release a mobo without the one thing necessary to have it run and expect you to take it to a shop and have it flashed... Let alone say it's compatible with something when "compatibility" entails doing something that no consumer on earth is capable of.

If this IS the issue, what's the solution?

Is there any definitive way of KNOWING for sure whether or not this is the issue?

So if my replacement gets here and I have the same problem am I completely fucked?

Do I just return everything and hang myself?

Do I get a new CPU?

Do I get a new Mobo?

I can't take it to a shop.

Is there anywhere online that states what BIOS this mobo comes with out of the box?

All I want is to have this mobo up and running with a working CPU in as little time as possible...
I've been through a lot trying to get this to work, and the idea of returning it all is quite perturbing.

Thanks for the help man, I didn't mean to sound douchey, but I was quite incredulous that NewEgg would dupe me like this.

After a brief conversation with MSI support in which I addressed your sentiment, they confirmed that the BIOS where indeed the issue.

I'll contact newegg tomorrow and see what they can do, they did advertise falsely after all.

You are by far the most help I've gotten.

No probs, umm Newegg I would say only sell / ship the product.

I dont think they would know what BIOS is on a mobo. And they wouldnt know what BIOS a mobo needs for whatever CPU. To get whatever to work

And they probably wouldnt have the BIOS updates there anyway. Its just something that can happen

Its just like any other computer shop. They sell / stock them thats it.

Yeah, but they did bundle them together which is silly, although who could have known better.
Hopefully they provide some sort of accommodation, and I'll attempt to find a shop who won't charge an arm and a leg for something so simple.
