dvi-d vs. displayport vs hdmi

My monitor is 2560x1440. Been trying to do my homework on which connection I need to be using. If I'm understanding right, my current cable does not support the monitor's full resolution as it is only single link dvi.

What is the best cable I should get that supports my monitor's full resolution?

Monitor is Asus pb278q
GPU is evga SSC acx2.0 970 sli

CNet is a terrible source for... pretty much everything.

refresh rate is not a function of the display cable. It's a function of the display controller, pixel bandwidth, and the display timings.

I use a 30 inch 2560x1600 display at 60hz. I have it connected via Dual-Link DVI-D, it works fine.

My display also has HDMI, but it's only 1.3 compliant so I can only drive it to 1920x1200 (which is the same as Single-Link DVI-D).

It also has DisplayPort 1.2, which provides truckloads of bandwidth and can easily drive it at 2560x1600.

HDMI1.4 - 3,820x2,160-pixel resolution at 30 frames per second.
DP - 3,840x2,160-pixel resolution at 60fps
DVI - Dual link - same as HDMI, single - 1,920x1,200,

HDMI 1.4 or DVI-D. They are equal.
 


Dual-Link DVI-D, DisplayPort, or HDMI 1.4 will work for your configuration. HDMI 1.3 will not work, so both the GPU and Display must be HDMI 1.4 compliant.
