I am helping a friend build a computer for gaming, I have already built a computer but I think its always good to get a second opinion on anything.

The i5 is around $100 cheaper than the i7, I don't think the 4690 will hamper you in any way playing any game any time soon, I would say for a very long time. You could use that money to add an SSD...

Hi, I am the person building it, and thanks for the quick reply :) . Is there not that much of a difference between the i5-4690 and the i7-4790? I wasn't really sure if it was worth spending the extra money on the i7. Thanks.

The i5 is around $100 cheaper than the i7, I don't think the 4690 will hamper you in any way playing any game any time soon, I would say for a very long time. You could use that money to add an SSD, perhaps an MX100 that is going for a great price per GB, you can get a 512GB for around $100.

Yup, the i7 only introduces hyperthreading and the i5-4690 will definitely do fine in terms of gaming.
