My gaming rig doesn't include a Wi-Fi card, so I've always used the MoBo's integrated ethernet port via patch cable to have Internet access. A few days ago though I booted up my PC, as I always do, and without a clear reason Internet via ethernet wasn't working (via Wi-Fi it did).
The only thing Windows tells me about the problem is "Network cable unplugged".
My ethernet cable is not broken because I bought another one and the problems persists.
I don't know if there a problem with my computer but I tried with my laptop and I get the same error. ISP side, they say that everything works fine and that it's not a problem of my router. I've also updated the drivers, I really don't know what to do now other than buying a wlan card for my desktop.

OS: Windows 8 Pro
MoBo: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0

Solution
if the error on the desktop and the laptop. check for bent pin on the router and a dead port on the router. try another port see if the error still there. if you can plug the cable modem into the pc see if the error stops if it does it the router.
one other tick is power off everything cable modem and router and power them back on see if there was a power glitch.
