Better Cpu or better gpu? For gaming

As a rule, a balanced gamer will budget 2x the cpu cost for the graphics card.
The FX-6300 and GTX760 is about right.
But... I am not too fond of the fx chips as a base for growth.
You can grow to 8 cores from six, but few games use more than 2-3 cores.
From a growth point of view, I might use a i3 and a Z97 motherboard along with a stronger graphics card.
