hello!
if i am in the wrong thread sorry i dont know where i should go.
I have a problem whenever im trying to install linux mint or ubuntu i always get an error saying that the iso file or the cd/dvd is corrupted or my hard drive is also corrupted and then it throuws me out of the installer
i also tryed installing it from usb drive but i get the same error ( first it says that cant install some files and i skip them and then it crushes
and throws me out).
Even when i try to install win xp i also get errors it says that cant install some files and i then skip them and the installation is not good and cant boot.
i have ABIT IL8 MOTHERBOARD SOCKET 775
INTEL PENTIUM D DUAL CORE 2.80 GHZ
3GB ram
64bit
two hard drives one IDE 500GB and one SSD 60GB
BIOS IS PHOENIX 6.0 is old i guess
graphics NVIDIA GEFORCE 7600GS 265MB
i only can istall windows 7 and it doesn't work good it crushes all the time and
i can't install many programms like chrome and very often after 1 or 2 hours a blue screen comes on saying
that its dumping physical memory ( thats all i can read because then it shut down very quick).
PLEASE HELP ME I CAN'T FIGOURE OUT WHAT IS GOING ON
THANKS IN ADVANCE.

As to that you may want to look and see if your USB is showing up as a hard drive instead. With flash plugged in go into the bios and uder boot order see if there is a + next to hard drive a click on it. If your flash is there promote it up.

i think i had a similar problem to what your experiencing. try using a different cable for the hard drives, see if that helps. that's what happened to me, it was a bad cable. other then that, i would say the hard drives are no good, try running chkdsk maybe from a different computer just to see. anything beyond that is beyond me. maybe motherboard, but don't quote me on that, it's just a guess after the hard drive check.

also, first things first, are you sure your media isn't scratched or anything? sounds like a dumb question cause i think you would have checked that already.

edit: you might want to make sure your drive is working properly too...

Considering Win7 is crashing as well you may have a hardware issue somewhere. Run memtest86 to test your memory and also run something like WDC datalifeguard or seagates seatools on your Physical HDD. I'm not sure on the SSD but I know running a SMART check on it is possible. But if you have an Intel SSD they have a toolbox you can run to check the drive.

i have tried chkdsk but it does not gets any errors and also tried different drives and cables and yet the same resalt
is the fault to my motherboard or bios settings?

then it's your motherboard probably, my friend also had a similar problem. i replaced his motherboard, i don't think it's your bios settings. can you test the mobo in a different computer to be sure?

edit: i didn't want to really say motherboard board because i didn't want to send you on a wild goose chase. but if it is, you can test to see.

what is a mobo?
my motherboard is old im sure about that
because when i tried to download drivers from the manufactor site the only os's that support are win 2000/xp/server 2003/vista 32/64bit
but not os old that dont accept linux right?

mobo = motheboard

sorry about that, i didn't realize i was doing that, lol, using abbreviations.

hmmm, well i know some of my computers didn't except certain linux distributions, although linux is pretty decent in supporting hardware right off the bat. your having trouble installing xp, so if your talking about the problem to compatibility with linux, i don't think that's it. linux has decent hardware support. you should be fine. i would reccomend fedora, but it takes tweaking for it to work, and i wouldn't reccomend it anyone that's not up to task.

also, if it's not your motherboard, your situation will leave me scratching my head.

i prefer mint or ubuntu they are more user friendly than any other linux os that i have tried
and as you said its not any compability issue so.....????
i am searching for a solution for a week now and many say that has to do with the settings in the bios.
for example my bios wont boot from usb drive.
so what the hell is going on?

maybe your bios doesn't support booting from usb. i know my custom motherboard doesn't support usb booting. i think it's your motherboard either way, if you can test the motherboard in a different computer just to be sure, then you can rule that out. other then that, your stuck guessing what the problem is. cause we already troubleshooted other variables out of the equation.

edit: the fact you also got errors from a cd/dvd says it's probably not a bios issue. whoever said that did some poor troubleshooting for you.

like you said, the motherboard is old. probably the culprit.
