I'm thinking of upgrading my HD 6870 to an R9 280x or HD 7950 but will my CPU cause my PC to bottleneck when I'm gaming?

my Spec:

AMD phenom II X4 955 3.2ghz. no Overclocking
-CoolerMaster hyper 212+
-ASUS M4N68T-M V2.
-8GB DDR3 1333
-750GB HDD Hitachi.
-Super Flower 850W 80+.
-Thelmaltake V3 black edition.

Thanks!

No it won't, a 3.2 quad is more than sufficient for most games, if you do experience any bottlenecking though, you can just overclock your cpu a little, although there shouldn't be any problems. Also, the R9 280x is better than a HD 7950 without overclocking, provided you buy the 3gb version :)
