Hi, a friend of mine has the following problem...

When playing certain games (most recently, the latest Call of Duty), about 40mins - an hour into gameplay the display driver will stop responding and he'll have to restart the game. It doesn't happen with all games, such as FIFA.
I've just lent him my card to see if the issue follows over.

I reinstalled Windows yesterday and the problem remains. Here are his basic specs (I'll get more detailed ones later on today),
700w unbranded PSU
16GB Kingston RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7870
6 Core AMD CPU (unsure on model ATM)
250GB SSD

Could this be a hardware fault with the GPU? How do I go about confirming this? Any help is much appreciated as this issue is driving me mad!! Ill get any more details if they're required

Edit - we also checked temps after a crash and GPU was at around 50degrees, sits at around 30 when idle

Edit - I changed the OC settings to stock (1000 from 1100), and the error started happening every 5 minutes, in comparison to every hour or so. Any other solutions?

Ive had the same issue with a AMD machine and a R9 270x videocard. Try to run the GPU at stock clockspeeds. I think its a optimization issue in CoD AW

I don't think he's messed with any clockspeeds since he got the PC, would they have changed on their own?

Edit - just noticed its a stock overclock! Going to turn down to stock speed and update later, thanks!
