UPDATE: I put everything back the way it was and now I've got a red CPU LED on my motherboard lit up. Not sure what to do at this point seeing as how everything was working just a few hours ago. I made sure I was grounded throughout swapping out the parts initially.

Fans come on, everyhting lights up, but still no picture, no post beep, the red CPU LED is lit, and I can't power down the system by holding the power button down. All this just from swapping GPU and RAM and then swapping back.

Maybe someone has some ideas I can try before I haul this over to the local tech shop.

Upgraded my GPU and RAM, but am having trouble getting it all running again.

The parts:
Mobo: ASUS P8Z77-V Pro 1155 socket
CPU: Intel i5-3570K
PSU: Corsair HX 850W CMPSU-850HX

Old RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600MHz
New RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 16GB DDR3 1866MHz

Old GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 2GB DDR5
New GPU: ASUS Strix GTX970 4GB DDR5

When I power on, I don't get any kind of beep, nor do I have any display. I uninstalled all my AMD drivers before taking out the card, but other than that, I haven't done anything out of the ordinary.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated and I'll provide any info I can. Many thanks.

Try the system without the GPU, download the drivers for your GTX 970.
Resart with your GTX installed and run drivers.

Make sure your RAM and GPU are properly seated and have the correct power connectors to it.

First, did you reset the cmos? 2nd is the ram on the motherboard's qvl? (memory, check this last, I've used non-qvl memory before without issue, won't always run at proper speeds though). 3rd, does your pc power up, all fans running and lights and what not? Also, had a similar issue yesterday building a new pc. I installed everything but the same thing, pc turned on but no connection to monitor. After being frustrated for awhile I took another look and hooked up the monitor directly to the hdmi port on the motherboard and it worked. Installed drivers and reconnected to gfx card, worked fine. In my case i'm using haswell which supports integrated gfx, think you are to. try it.

Didn't reset cmos. Pretty sure I checked the RAM before purchase and it was on the qvl, but now that I'm looking at the ASUS site again, I'm not seeing it there. Crap...I think that might be the culprit.

For the third point, yes, everything powers on--fans, lights, etc. Just no picture and no beep.

I'll swap the RAM back and see if that changes anything. Thanks for the tips.
