I have the FTW , VERY pleased with it . performance is great , and I got the free back plate and 5 yr warranty . stays around the 60 deg c mark , even when at full chat O/C`d to 1535MHz ( fans at 50 %) .
I believe the EVGA 970 FTW does not come with a backplate. And the promotion for a free backplate has ended although you can buy it.
The Gigabyte G1 gaming GTX 970 does have a backplate.
Either gpu is fine really, it will depends if you want a backplate or not and if you can fit these gpu in your case.

Got a back plate with mine , although I did use the EVGA step up program . top brands like EVGA and Gigabyte are never going to be very far apart on performance . Get either , I don't think you will be disappointed .
