Alright what would be a good laptop to buy? I will be in college most of my time as I will be doing homework and studying so I can't justify building a gaming pc, I need something I can carry around and play on my free time. What would be a good gaming laptop for around $1000? I would like the brand to be Asus or Lenovo as I think they might be best. Lenovo has some great laptops like Y40 and Y50 I'm thinking about getting as they are the ideal size no greater than 15.6". I don't know what gaming laptop Asus might have that could run current games like Lenovo. Any advice is greatly appreciated guys, might wait until black friday for deals online or in store.

what do you think of this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152625&cm_re=msi-_-34-152-625-_-Product
there is a better one but its 1099.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152563&cm_re=msi-_-34-152-563-_-Product

the ones above are msi laptops they are made for gaming

I couldn't find any asus gaming laptops under $1000

I found this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834317538&cm_re=lenovo-_-34-317-538-_-Product just under $1000

you can compare the two and see which one has the features you like.

Thanks they seem good, the MSI and the Lenovo Y50, they seem to have good and bad reviews so not sure but I gotta keep searching, not sure if to OPT OUT of a gaming laptop as some seem to not have good benefits and run with something that can use 3D prgrams and run things well under load. Not sure what else to look for at this price range maybe a Lenovo Z50 or something else :/

Unless you plan on playing really graphically intensive games, you can probably get something good for under $800. Either get something decent that isn't going to bankrupt you or go all out for an enterprise class computer. You can probably find something affordable just by running through one of the computer searches from Newegg or some such site.

I ran some decent specs through Newegg and got these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006740%20600364042%20600364040%204020%204021%204022%20600004344%20600004758%20600004748%20600029658%20600364041%20600059503&IsNodeId=1

All of these computers are pretty good (and because Newegg is benevolent, can come with some cool stuff) but you'll want to watch for the presence or absence of an optical drive. Be careful to check reviews and make sure you can deal with the manufacturers if something goes wrong.

You shouldn't really need anything more than 8 GB of RAM unless you're doing sysadmin stuff, so don't worry about paying extra for another GB or two. For the purposes of a student, I'd recommend getting at least 750 GB HDD and something with a good battery life. Dedicated GPUs are also worth having if you can afford the extra cost.

I wish you the best of luck in your search,

May the Microsoft be with you.

I feel like these gaming laptops are kinda iffy, there are good and bad reviews, I think I might opt for something that can just run programs and work well with school stuff. Would I need something greater than Intel HD graphics 4400? Would it be better to just get a dedicated graphics card like Nvidia gt 820?

I'm of the opinion that dedicated graphics are worth the extra cost. However, depending on what games you play, an Intel 4400 should be fine. Most computers with 4 stars or higher on Newegg/Amazon are fine. I got one of the Acer Aspire V3s on the Newegg list I sent you. It was under $800 and runs Civ V, Metro 2033, and Crusader King II fine. Most of the gaming laptops are really overpriced for what they are.

Guys what about these laptops?

These are maybe something I would go for, if these don't work can you recommend a laptop that is good for just school work, mainly videos and programs like autocad and 3d programs. I'm thinking I probably WON'T be playing much or close to even anything as my interest for games have gown down. Honestly it doesn't matter I just want something that will work and have a good run with me, the programs I've heard I will need to run during my semesters will be SOLIDWORKS, AUTOCAD, RHINO so if they laptop can run these it will be all good, also could I just use Intel HD graphics for these programs? I looked into Mac's but seems they don't run the programs the same. Thanks for all the help! All recommendations for work laptops are welcome!

the 3rd one is the best in my opinion as it has a the best mobile i7 the others are the u series which are meant to be power saving but trust me once one of them starts to get stressed 40W+ (have a Lenovo T440 for school with 4200U and that's how much power gets used while in prime 95 alone but surfing the web its around 5-10W)

The first Asus looks really good. I wouldn't necessarily get it from Best Buy though. Browse around some and see if you can get it cheaper somewhere else.

Guys I'm not sure if I'm over-thinking this because now I see that geforce nvidia cards aren't the best for 3D design, I'm thinking the Y40 since the AMD card can run some 3D designs better but not sure. I don't know if I'm over thinking it and just get an AMD computer since the stuff I might do might not be so graphic intensive. I saw these workstation laptops-

The reviews aren't the best and seems they are pretty big, not sure if to go for the cheapers one Dell M2800 or is that TOO MUCH for a student? Should I just run with a Lenovo Y40?
