I know the psu is quite limiting-500w. But should I upgrade the gpu first-comes with a Radeon R9 255-? Would a R9270x work? Or maybe a Radeon R9 290? Or further yet should I buy more Ram? Thank you for your time

Solution
i7-4770 Good to go

8 GB That is fine for gaming you wont need more for a few years

Radeon R9 255.. this needs to be upped. If your going to upgrade go for a 4gb GPU your going to see more games coming out that ask for it.

ASUS Radeon R9 270X Overclocked 4GB $174.99

MSI Radeon R9 290 GAMING 4GB $269

A SSD would be nice as well.

Samsung MZ-7TD250BW 840 Series 250GB SATA 6GB/s Internal SSD $150...

For the R9 270X you can use your power supply as it is a decent quality, for the R9 290 you would need around a 650 watt.
A 970 GTX would work with your power supply but that is over $300.

Thank you everyone for not only your quick responses, but also your tech insight. I think the 8gb of ram will carry me for at least a year... regarding the GPU I would like to get the 970 GTX-sadly will have to wait a few months till I can afford it though :(. What about the GTX 750 Ti- or is it more worth it in a year or two year run to save up and just buy the 970 GTX?
Thank you once again everyone... regarding the PSU's exact specs other than 500W-I will know exactly come Wednesday when I receive the computer.

the GTX 750 Ti is a bit slow compare to the GTX 970. If you can get a Radeon R9 then go with that, it will hold you down for a few until you can save up and get a better card. about your PSU 500W will just do fine, depends on the quality of the PSU.

After delving into all of your insights I will most certainly go with the gtx 970-incredible power efficiency...but my question is which maker should I go with for the card-Asus,MsI, Evga? Also do you think using my computer with a 50in plasma-very nice Panasonic-just for playing games is a bad idea-burn in risk? I Will have my pc monitor for work on the side. Thank you once again

tvs suck for responsiveness. I mean really bad. however things do look good on the big screen and if you are not playing competitive fps and such the slow response is not that bad. that will really come down to personal taste.

Well for instance for now I will be playing CIV5 and Crysis 3-both firsts for a while...25 bucks together new. I really am stuck with the plasma because my monitor is a 4 year old 1680-1050 dell monitor.

Gigabyte , MSI, ASUS or EVGA will do the job. I imagine your plasma TV have been use for quite sometime, so dont worry about it, during the first 100hrs is when you need to be delicated with it. after that its all good. I did 100hrs straight break-in or burn-in then I got a professional ISF calibrator do his job.

Not really there are lots of LED TV's out there with response times at 1 ms to 5ms which is great, my LG has a 2.4ms response time which is better than some of my monitors.
