No display after installing a new GFX card..and after removing it as well

So I got a new Sapphire HD 7850 off warranty after my old 6850 died, however after installing it in my computer I get no display at all.
I tried switching cables and monitors and the problem seemed to persist, so I figure I might as well remove the card for now until I figure it out - problem is my computer is now not showing any display even without the card in it (and it worked just fine an hour earlier)
I thought it might be the card but after seeing my PC fail to boot even without I'm pretty sure that's not it.
PC is about 3 years old.
specs:
i5-2400 @ 3.1
Asrock h61m-HVS
Kingston 4GN DDR3 1333Mhz
Sapphire HD 7850 1GB (previous card was a 6850)
XFX 450W PSU (possibly not good enough?)

Thanks.

I did connect it to the main VGA, I cleared the CMOS (jumper + battery), my motherboard doesn't ever beep unfortunately, and all the components seem to be properly placed and still nothing. any more ideas?

If there's no buzzer, connect a speaker to the "SPK" or "SPEAKER" or "SPKR" headers on the motherboard. A quick beep indicated a positive POST (Power On Self Test), meaning what's on there works. Faulty RAM, CPU, etc. gives different beeps that can be identified to find a problem quicker.

There's no built in buzzer and I don't have the special speaker to connect to the mobo (the 4 pins type,), is there any other way to check the POST or at least find what component is at fault?

without the buzzer it is impossible to pinpoint in an instant without seeing it in real life.... you got to get a buzzer for us to answer properly
