I'm looking at 3 graphics cards I know which one is the best but wondered what you guys think.

Cards I'm looking at are the r6 260x, gtx 750ti or the r9 270x ( would prefer the 270 for a little better energy efficiency but I can get an Asus non-oc for only £20 more than cheapest 260x. Is it worth it, I will only be a light gamer, but I do intend doing some light cad and 3d max work from home, not much rendering.

Setup; i5 4590
Asus z97 a
2x4gb cl9 ram
Antec 550w tpclassic
120gb ssd ocz

Civ5, skyrim and fallout most likely being played.

Is it worth bumping for the better r9?
Thanks

i think it will be as 3d applications like blender, maya need a really good GPUs with LARGE quantity of VRAM

i have tried doing i in blender and some high quality things take about 40m to 1hr

Apart from this if you plan on Doing heavy 3d work i suggest you upgrade to 16GB ram

hope it helped!!

The 270X is nearly twice as fast as the 260X & 750TI. It will play all current gen games at medium-high settings without any problems. You may need to upgrade the 260X in a couple of years where the 270X will be a bit more future proof.

Here are some basic details to compare:
http://www.hwcompare.com/15658/radeon-r7-260x-vs-radeon-r9-270x/

My set up is very similar to yours, same PSU, similar mobo/processor. You won't go wrong with the 270X its the entry level 'gamers card' in my opinion and good when your on a budget with a mid-range machine.

you are more more of a designer than a gamer so you will be rendering a lot of graphics and vectors... all the gpus you suggest are great for that... for a renderer like you will need a gpu with the highest vram... just the gpu with the highest vram.. the gpu processing will be smooth with the choices you prefered

Cheers, really quick, always people on here.

Should have mentioned it's the 270x I can get, can't seem to find a 270 under £150. And from the specs the x version seems a power hog considering the slightly improved performance.

Yeh I could get a 280x but feel guilty going to stick to my budget.

On the power saving front, was the only reason I was considering the 750ti, how does it measure up with AMDs zerocore.

Lol when i was at uni, had an old dell inspiron laptop, used to leave it for 24hrs to render a small scene, safe to say it eventually fried :-D

to put it simply, nvidia cards tend to do better at power effeciency/per dollar and amd cards do better at raw processing power/dollar

Yeah an upgrade is on the cards if I start doing more work on it. Definately more ram and maybe better card.
But at the moment it won't get too much work and little serious rendering.

To me double the power for £20 on 270x in my price point sounds like a great deal.

Have you considered buying second-hand? The R7 and R9 series is essentially a refresh of the HD series, which you can pick up very cheaply on eBay. For £150 you can buy an HD 7970, which is the same as an R9 280X/R9 290. Granted, it's going to be overkill for your use, but it shows what you can get.

Thanks guys went with the 270x.
Checked and some of the shops I was looking at had hiked there prices up to £156 for it, but still found one, guess some companies got stock cheap or had some price matching program which they realised was wrong. Anyway see how it turns out.

Cheers
