I've yet to buy the parts, but this will be my first PC build:

Intel Core i5-4690K
MSI Z97-GAMING 5
Samsung 840 EVO 120GB
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB
MSI Radeon R9 280 3GB TWIN FROZR
NZXT S340 (Black) ATX Mid Tower
Seasonic EVO Edition 520W Full Modular PSU
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 CAS 9
Noctua NH-D15 (with an extra Noctua NF-F12 for an exhaust)

Cost: £776.72
Budget is around the £770 mark

I plan on mildly overclocking and using the rig for gaming and just for a level work etc.
Could this build be improved in any way, or is there a completely different build which would be better at the same price point?
Also, are there any places I could save money on this build without having to sacrifice performance?

Thanks in advance :)

Solution
Your build is pretty good, but this will drop the overclocking (you still have the option to do so in the future) in favor of a more powerful GPU:

Haha, my bad, it was 8gb of Corsair Vengeance.
Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it :)
Do you think that I would even notice an overclock, say to 4.2 ghz, during day to day use or gaming? Or do you think overclocking makes little difference?
Also, how does the kingston SSD compare to the samsung? Does the slighlty less read time even cause any noticeable difference in speeds?
Thanks

Overclocking may yield 5-10% of performance, but a good GPU is much more important.
The Kingston WILL have a bit slower readéwrite speeds, but for around 10 pounds more, it`s definitely worth it. Copying times will increase, but only by a bit.

+1; The GPU is the main factor in terms of gaming!
