Question on Monitor and Motherboard for Gaming Build

I am building a PC for my friend. He has never had a Gaming PC before. I am trying to keep his budget around $900 (he needs keyboard, mouse, monitor, and a wireless adapter as well, so the budget should be around or under $700). We probably buy most of the parts soon and on Black Friday.

Here are the specs so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/WmxTt6

My question is how is the MSI H97 Guard Pro (it supposedly is a bit-mining mobo) for gaming. Is that a good Mobo or should I go get the AsRock H97 anniversary?

Also what is a good Monitor for under $200? I was thinking ASUS VS248H-P.

Solution
The system that you have there is a real solid build. I would knock back the 4460 to a 4430 because there will be almost not performance loss there at all while saving a couple bucks. Plus, you should be able to squeeze a little OC back up to that for free.

As for the Mobo, keep the Guard Pro, cheaper, and has Crossfire capability in case he decides to take that route.

Monitor wise, That's a good screen, I have the VE248H that I use personally, and it's been the best monitor I have ever owned. The VS248H-P is essentially the same one with a different stand.

Overall, great build. I hope your friend likes it!

Thanks. Originally I was going with the 4430, but the 4460 price fluctuates a lot to where its the same price as the 4430.

Yeah the Guard Pro is on sale. I probably get that now, since today is the last day of the rebate. For $60, that is a great price for a H97 mobo. I told another buddy to get it (that is for a $550 i3 build). I am still trying to figure out if he has the budget and go get a R9-290 (if it is at $250).

If you can find a 4460 or the price of a 4430, then by all means, jump on it. And for your other buddy that is running with the i3 setup, I would be hesitant to pair a R9 290 with an i3, might see some bottle-necking in games that can use the GPU, but want 4 or more cores. In that scenario, I would pair an R9-270X or a GTX 760.

No. The buddy with the i3 has a r9-280 (which we got at the same price as a 270X). I figured the r9 280 would be the max he could probably get within his budget.

This build with the i5 is the one I am thinking of getting the R9 290.
