I recently got 2x4gb hyperx fury ram, and was wondering if I could add my old 4gb stick from a previous computer I had. I might be lower clocked, does the Maximus Hero VI support it? I heard that intel supports dual channel ram and makes the third stick into a singular channel

Uncr0wned - if You need a RAM, do it, if You don't need it, it won't boost Your system noticably. 12 gigs will do with Creative Cloud, Corel Suite, Autodesk Software, Catia, Cad, etc. but not with games/office/multimedia/etnertainment. At least not yet...

Is it worth adding 4GB if i have to lower my clock from 1600 to 1333 aswell as losing dual channel?

12GB (3x4GB) will run in flex mode - you'll have 8GB in dual channel and the odd 4 in single channel mode. This will run fine on the Hero and most any recent Intel mobo, if the sticks will play together, the Fury's operate based on PnP while most other sticks run under XMP, so may need some manual timing/voltage adjustments

Thanks but Ill stick with 8GB for now, dont feel like tweaking any more settings lol

Tradesman1 - working with computers since 1991, and never encountered it. As I wrote, good to know :). The only situation I use 3 RAM modules is, when a mobo directly supports triple channel, otherwise, whenever I see configuration of such, in cpu-z it shows on each module "single channel", and with amd it's "ganged/unganged".
