AMD A10 vs. FX 6300 & System Uses

I've been trying to understand AMD CPU market with it's differences. I know that the FX series doesn't have integrated gpu, but the "A series" do. There may be other threads that answer this question, but they don't have the specifics I'm asking for.

This is sort of a multi-question I have. Does it make sense (or worth it) to get the A10 (like 7700k) paired with a decent dedicated graphics card (like 2-3GB R9 260, 270, or 280 series)? I thought it would be good to have a back up plan if my dedicated graphics card decided to crash out. Just like comparing Intel to AMD, the A10 has few cores but faster single cores. Whereas the FX6300 has more cores, but slower single cores.

The computer would be used for both gaming and work. Gaming would be at least 720p on medium/high with stable/playable FPS. I will be alternating between two screens. The small 18" monitor would be used for skype/netflix/twitch/office work. The larger 40" TV via HDMI, would be used for gaming. 21" seems to be the sweet spot for gaming monitors, but that's later down the road.

I'm trying to keep the micro atx form factor, but we can't always get what we want. The FX6300, doesn't really allow me much room to keep the new/future proof motherboards. So with the two builds I have below, which one would benefit me more? This computer is meant to stick around for the next 5 years+.

Key Points:

  • -Playing modern games such as, COD, Diablo, Battlefield, Dragon Age, Titanfall, Starcraft, Natural Selection, and upcoming games.
-No video editing, but would not mind having the ability to work with GIMP smoothly.
-Don't intend to stream my gameplay.
-I don't like anything in the Dual-Core range. It doesn't ever seem to give me enough power or speed.
    -Multitasking
-Playing games while skype or netflix.

Thank you for your feedback, opinions, build suggestions in advance.

go with the 6300 and see if you can find any AM3/AM3+ board with integrated graphics. I know some do there not high end (usally HD 3000) so you can still use your computer.

this motherboard has integrated graphics (HD 3000)...
The processor cores are quite similar . The Kaveri cores are sightly better , but that will not offset the reduction from 6 to 4

Use the FX if you intend to use a discreet graphics card
If you must build on FM2+ for cost reasons you use an Athlon 860K which is the same as your APU but has no graphic cores enabled [ and you dont ned them since you have the graphics card ]
The asrock extreme 4 is an OK board , but unless you intend using 2 graphics cards its pointless . Save money and use the gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P . Its cheaper and a better stronger build electrically

If you change that you can build this

I would probably swap out the RAM for the Sniper series of the same spec too . But only because of the color

2 things

1. you can only crossfire the iGPU with a 250 or 240 nothing higher

2. amd use modules and they are like cores but each module is a core but with another core inside so an 8350 is an 8 core but it has 4 true cores its like intels hyperthreding

I don't plan to crossfire with the iGPU, it's just meant for a back up plan to my GPU if it decided to stop working. So if my GPU had problems, I could use the iGPU while I find the solution to fix my GPU.
