I would personally pick the Maximus VII Hero myself, but that's purely preference.

The MSI Z97 Gaming 9 doesn't come terribly well reviewed on Newegg, but really it's a matter of difference of features. If you get a good board with no issues from both, they're fairly comparable, and it just depends on which features matter to you more.
