4690k is better, it's a refresh model. Which concludes that the 4690k is a 4670k with all the kinks worked out and slightly better performance. z97 in general is the better platform over z87.

2, cooler
3, faster
4, cheaper (at least in the US)

The 4690K is newer and they've upgraded the TIM of the CPU, resulting in cooler and more reliable CPU.

In gaming they both will perform the same hence the I5 4690k being a haswel refresh process has a bit better cooling so you can OC it higher than i5 4670k .
